EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
According to Greg Kerstan, founder of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning, " Work and observation in the horse world lends itself to extremely powerful metaphors into our own patterns, strengths, and nonverbal messages we send". Equine Assisted Learning uses the philosophy and priniciples that humans can relate and learn about themselves through interactions and natural equine behavior. EAL exercises can be used to demonstrate teamwork, communication skills, problem solving and critical thinking skills and many more!
"The lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him'. Lamentations 3:24
Our equine friends get special love and care. Their stalls are cleaned daily with an abundance of fresh water and hay. They love the grassy pastures and apple trees.

Message from Miss Pam:
Many people ask what we do at Emmaus Horsemanship with horses and people having disabilities. As an Educator and Behavioral Specialist, I am trained and educated to use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It is a structured evidence-based method that applies the theory of learning and motivation. ABA focuses on improving specific behaviors such as social/emotional development, communication, attentional tasks, and everyday adaptive learning skills. The technique has become the most successful way to teach new skills and change or influence positive behavioral outcomes. This is also true for people without a diagnosed disability Equine assisted activities coupled with ABA provides a unique teaching and learning concept. Emmaus Horsemanship students' interact with horses within a fun environment while the instructors facilitate the learning sessions using ABA and specialized equine assisted exercises. Greg Kersten, founder of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning, (OK Corral Series/EAGALA), states, "Horses are skilled at keeping themselves safe and adept at survival; their natural behaviors are optimal for mental and physical health. In many respects humans have lost the instinct to keep themselves safe and healthy. We entrust horses to show us the way back to health." We are blessed to see it with people of all ages and abilities everyday!
